OTHER: Rei has a condition where his essence destabilizes and causes pain and feathers to grow across his body. The only real solution is to fuck someone with essence. Last time, fucking anyone in the resort allowed him to get the essence stabilization he needs.

Also, Olivine took in Father, his pet owl, gained from rewards, when Rei left, so Father will still be around if that's okay.

SUITABILITY: Rei is an adult who frequently has sex with others, either people he knows or strangers, for pleasure or for purpose. He has plenty of experience in nearly every kink imaginable as he recognized a sex toy not even Eiden, the sex toy designer, recognized. He's used to having sex as a means to an end, even says the phrase himself, so having to have it to make money is of no consequence to him.

HISTORY: (cw: mention of assault) Rei was born into nobility, but unfortunately, his childhood was rife with bullying from other children, most likely due to the gemstone embedded into his ear. Eventually, as he grew older, he took an active role in his mother's Council of Sorcery, an organization seeking to create alternatives for stabilizing the elemental alters without the Grand Sorcerer. Soon after, his mother passed away. He befriended a man named Cashel, a fellow researcher who originally was recruited by his mother for his magical aptitude, who later was shown to be Garu's caretaker.

Kolt was also part of the Council of Sorcery, only he participated in inhumane experiments on yokai, Garu being one of them. Rei could only console Garu from time to time, and eventually left the Council of Sorcery due to differences with Kolt. Kolt would later blame Rei for getting in his way, and would chase him and hunt him down, likely adding to Rei's paranoia and probably the reason why Rei is so secretive about where he lives.

For some time after that, Rei wandered about, either joining Huey, Kuya, and Quincy in stabilizing alters or leaving Klein all together for his research. At one point, he was conducting research in a country named Saia, a country known for using mysterious resources for all their energy. He got caught, however, and was assaulted and later was captured and used for experiments. He did not have a good time in Saia.

Eventually he meets Eiden, the Grand Sorcerer. He assists the Grand Sorcerer in solving a multitude of strange issues arising from the elemental alters going haywire, including saving Olivine's life when he accumulates too much chaotic essence. He then joins Eiden in his trek to the Dark Zone to find Morvay, and they end up finding Huey, the original Grand Sorcerer (whom Rei did not really like actually).

ABILITIES: As a Klein native, he innately has essence which is the conduit to channel the elemental spirits which allow for some very basic magic such as blowing wind to make laundry dry faster, that sort of thing. But as a clan member, Rei has access to the Grand Sorcerer's essence, accessible through his gemstone in his ear, to allow for more powerful magic. He has demonstrated the below types of magic:

Disguise/Illusion magic: He can choose who is affected and who can see the illusion. Strong enough to cast an illusion to a room full of people and make them all faint.

Barrier magic: Strong enough to contain an adamantite-based explosion (non-magic) that devastated a town.

Essence blocking/protection magic: Able to suppress essence readings in objects as well as protect himself and others from essence-based spells (magic).

Levitation magic: Unsure of how heavy of objects he can levitate, but likely only smaller handheld items

He has implied usage of combat magic, and other clan members have shown the ability to heal as well. But it is unknown Rei's adeptness at these types of magic, but he has stated that his strength in combat magic ebbs and flows with his essence. And considering his essence is highly unusual due to his condition, this may be why he's only shown to use less combat-intensive magic.

VICES:

PARANOID Something that isn't immediately noticeable is Rei's paranoia. Due to a past incident, Rei now leaves his items scattered everywhere in his home. To anyone else, it just seems like Rei is merely messy, probably too deep in his research to bother cleaning up. However, Rei has memorized the exact location and angle of every little item. That way should there be any intruders, he will know immediately if anything askew. Unfortunately, this paranoia has resulted in him being very picky about whom he actually trusts. Due to his work and research, he gets into all kinds of suspicious situations such as looking into governmental secrets or snooping around in the black market to steal something. Because of this, he has to be careful about whom he trusts or he could find himself in an even worse position. Like dead.

WITHDRAWN Due to the above paranoia and distrust, Rei tends to keep to himself. He lives alone, reclusive deep within the forest, and has done so for decades with only his little owl for company. Rei doesn't seem to mind, though, as he's focused on his research and pours all his attention into said research. People have only proven to cause pain and bad memories since he was small, when the children in his youth bullied him and called him a monster. This lack of positive interaction with others has led Rei to not really understand things like friendship and love. Eiden has attempted to talk to him about it several times, even taking it slow with Rei during sex, but he just Did Not Get It even a little. Rei is definitely not one to be the life of the party or to ever want to be either. He just wants to hole up in his cabin and run his experiments, man.

SARCASTIC Rei's main way of communication is some form of sarcasm. Perhaps it's due to all his research - he simply just knows more than everyone and sees everyone as some form of stupid one way or another. Or perhaps it's from decades of interactions with Kuya, the shittiest fucking fox yokai known to man and sarcasm is the only way of communicating with him while remaining sane. Or perhaps it's due to his very limited interactions with anyone else. Either way, Rei is unapologetic about it. He rarely apologizes for anything, actually, whether he says something truly hurtful or not. Why should he, after all, when he rarely keeps anyone close enough for them to stay?

VIRTUES:

INTELLIGENT Rei is incredibly, incredibly smart. He's so dedicated to his research and experiments, just curiously poking at everything until he discovers an answer. He is usually the one providing answers or explanations within the game, like when he nudged Eiden and crew toward the right direction when looking for desert treasure or when he answers the cause for the clan members all passing out during one of the events. And while he has a condition he is likely trying to cure, he is also just genuinely interested in research and experimentation and academia. Whether he's always had this interest or he's developed it out of necessity, we don't currently know, but it is truly his number one interest.

DRIVEN (cw: mention of assault) Rei is a stubborn guy - he will do anything for the sake of his research, and if that includes experimenting on himself, then so be it. He will stop at nothing to get the answers he seeks. Even after getting assaulted in another country, he still continued on investigating their governmental secrets. He is willing to endure any kink, even torture kinks which he is definitely not into, to gain the information he wants. There is very little he is not willing to do to meet his objective, for better of for worse. When offered to have his gemstone taken, he was resolute in keeping in despite never having asked for it, knowing it would be beneficial to his cause.

HUMAN At the end of the day, Rei is just a human. He has a heart. As much as he wants to avoid having a feeling about anything, he still feels it. He's kept the music box his mother gave him out of sentimentality. He feels guilty over Garu for allowing torturous experimentations on him. He shows gratitude to Kuya, one of his least favorite people, for his assistance in matters concerning Garu. He even accepted a more or less useless gift from Eiden and kept it. As much as he'd like to act like he's above being human - he tried to reject the music box when it was first returned to him, for example - he is very, very much still human.

SURVEY

▶ I REGULARLY MAKE NEW FRIENDS.
▷ 1, STRONGLY DISAGREE. Rei is a loner and has always been one. Even in childhood, other children bullied him, his mother his only solace. Since her death, he had joined a council and subsequently left on bad terms, resulting in him hiding away in the forest to avoid their capture, which just goes to showcase Rei's skill in making friends. But even if he didn't want to protect other people from shadows of his own past, he simply is not interested. People only cause pain and they've never proven otherwise.

▶ SEEING OTHER PEOPLE CRY MAKES ME WANT TO CRY TOO.
▷ 1, STRONGLY DISAGREE. The most Rei would feel is discomfort in not being able to make said person stop crying. Rei is so out of touch with his own emotions and showing emotion, he needs Eiden and Kuya's (shocking, but that's for a future Kuya player to write about) help to convince another member to let Rei bandage him up out of concern (one of the few times he's ever been concerned for someone else!). For most people, he does not care about their own emotional state, preferring to prioritize himself and his own objectives, as shown when he frequently leaves Eiden behind regardless of Eiden's feelings.

▶ I OFTEN MAKE A BACKUP PLAN FOR A BACKUP PLAN.
▷ 5, STRONGLY AGREE. After an incident where someone got the better of him and he paid dearly for it, Rei likely has learned his lesson and has backup plan after backup play after backup plan. He has Father (his owl), whom he has learned to communicate with to get him out of tough situation, like when he and Eiden got locked in a small closet. Father is usually his backup plan, but I'm sure he has many others to prevent the consequences of not planning ahead.

▶ I USUALLY STAY CALM, EVEN WHEN UNDER A LOT OF PRESSURE.
▷ 4, AGREE. Showcased by when someone had a bomb, and Rei calmly had a plan already in mind despite there being a huge margin for error. Because of the above, Rei generally has backup plan after backup plan, so there's usually little need to panic in the face of pressure or danger. However, there are times when he is not, such as when Garu collapsed, Rei was visibly shaken. It is only when people he cares about are in danger that he seems to come close to panicking, considering he doesn't have many people he cares about in that capacity.

▶ I AM VERY SENTIMENTAL.
▷ 4, AGREE. He would personally deny this, but considering he was willing to protect a music box - likely gifted from his mother - over his own self, his sentimental nature of things and people that matter to him are clear. He likely even had a replica made or bought another one to replace the one that broke, as there was a music box in his cabin despite having lost it in another country. So as much as Rei likes to think he is above such things and doesn't have attachments, in the end, he is just human.

▶ EVEN A SMALL MISTAKE CAN CAUSE ME TO DOUBT MY OVERALL ABILITIES AND KNOWLEDGE.
▷ 1, STRONGLE DISAGREE. Rei is very, very confident in his own intelligence. Even if he's wrong, it's all just part of the scientific process, not every theory will be correct, that's what he does research for so he can figure out the correct answers. However, if that mistake is something related to morality, he will feel quite bad about it. We don't know for sure what happened while Rei was in the council seeking to figure out how to stop relying on the elemental alters, but we can assume the council had something to do with why Garu's gemstone is not attached, a normally extremely painful process, and Rei clearly reflects that guilt in his actions, offering to help patch him up almost tentatively, which is very different from Rei's usual demeanor.

▶ I AM MORE INCLINED TO FOLLOW MY HEAD THAN MY HEART.
▷ 4, AGREE. As explained in all of the above, Rei is definitely more likely to follow rationality than emotion. He normally has a plan and backup plans, straying from such plans especially over something like emotion could get him into trouble. However, there are times that he forgets himself and succumbs to that pesky organ called his heart, like when his sentimentality over his music box won over his self-preservation.

▶ I AM PRONE TO WORRYING THAT THINGS WILL TAKE A TURN FOR THE WORSE.
▷ 1, STRONGLY DISAGREE. Why worry when you have Plans B, C, D, etc? And if things do take a turn for the worse somehow despite all his backup plans, he's sure he can handle it. Rei is definitely more in the present and doesn't have that kind of "something's definitely going to happen" anxiety. He went to an unknown patron alone (well, he had Father!) without any other backups without worrying about the consequences, despite the fact that he almost got drugged prior because of that very same patron.

▶ I ENJOY WATCHING PEOPLE ARGUE.
▷ 4, AGREE. He would mostly find it amusing, but I think generally he would enjoy watching people argue to take both their arguments into consideration and see if he can find the real solution. So it isn't that he enjoys watching people argue for the sake of it, it's partly for the entertainment factor but mostly for the intellectual pursuit. He likes to provoke people too, like when he makes provokes Dante at the market ("Hurry up and show us so we can all have a good laugh"), so he would definitely find the arguing at least a little funny.

▶ I TEND TO AVOID DRAWING ATTENTION TO MYSELF.
▷ 5, STRONGLY AGREE. Rei's entire modus operandi is stealth, whether for his research or for avoiding the council that's been looking for him. He has powerful disguise and illusion magic in cases that he does need to be out in public, like when he cast disguise magic on Eiden and himself when taking him to a tavern for a stealth mission (not that Eiden knew lol). The only times he does draw attention to himself is when he's honeytrapping to gain information, but it's not because he likes the attention, it's for a specific, completely unrelated purpose.

▶ I OFTEN DO THINGS AT THE LAST POSSIBLE MOMENT.
▷ 2, DISAGREE. For his missions, Rei plans everything as noted throughout this application. For tasks regarding his research, he is too focused to let any task go by the wayside - what if that affected the results? He can't have that variable potentially fuck up his experiment. However, for every day tasks that do not impact his research like eating for example, he'd likely put it off until he's done with his priority tasks first (research is definitely a higher priority than eating and sleeping to Rei).

▶ I FIND IT EASY TO EMPATHIZE WITH A PERSON WHOSE EXPERIENCES ARE VERY DIFFERENT FROM MINE.
▷ 1, STRONGLY DISAGREE. Empathy doesn't come easy to Rei. Should someone share a dark past with him he'd merely nod and ask if they want to fuck to forget it at least for a moment. Eiden, who comes from a completely different world with a completely different take on sex, tries to get Rei to see things his way, but Rei simply doesn't understand and thinks it's weird.

▶ I BECOME BORED OR LOSE INTEREST WHEN THE DISCUSSION GETS HIGHLY THEORETICAL.
▷ 1, STRONGLY DISAGREE. Oh no, Rei would love any sort of academic discussion, and theories are an entire step in the scientific process. His whole life is about theories. In fact, he may become hyperfixated on discussing theories with someone else - finally, someone else who enjoys science and other academia!!

▶ I RARELY FEEL INSECURE.
▷ 5, STRONGLY AGREE. Rei is so secure in himself, no one can shake his confidence, even Kuya, the fox yokai who likes to poke at everyone's greatest insecurities for fun. He just shrugs off Kuya's provocations with a sigh or a sharp retort of his own, completely unfazed. People can make fun of bottoms being weak or slutty little whores all they want, Rei WILL drain their dicks and walk away before morning. The man knows who he is and what he wants and what he likes and he is not ashamed of it.

▶ I AM STILL BOTHERED BY MISTAKES I MADE A LONG TIME AGO.
▷ 2, DISAGREE. Rei would certainly like to think he's above such regrets, especially since he's likely to live longer than most humans, but there are times where he'll stand in front of an old abandoned cabin in the rain thinking about a past he supposedly cast into the darkness long ago.

SUIT REQUESTS:

CLUBS Who better to challenge Rei than Rei's own mind? As a man with many secrets that he keeps locked up tight, having a suit to challenge that by encouraging impulsivity and reckless behavior would be much more interesting, as he's likely not going to give up that information on his own. Ever. He is someone who values control over himself, and to not have it would make him highly uncomfortable. And as RPers we love making characters uncomfortable!

HEARTS As noted in this entire application, Rei is not very well-versed in matters of the heart. Hearts is my second choice because I have a slight preference for Rei's emotional growth to be more organic via character interactions. But Hearts would be interesting for Rei regardless, making him not only feel emotions he doesn't normally feel, but to display them as well. It would be interesting to have him actually work through emotions (or ignore them completely until the suit Makes Him Work Through Them) and confront old hurts and trauma that he's buried for decades.

Queen. Rei has royal blood in his veins, but he was bullied as a child due to having a gemstone in his ear (often called a monster - Edmond also mentions being bullied for his gemstone). He doesn't have any ties to the royal family anymore or power. After living in the forest alone for decades, it would be funny if suddenly everyone treated him like royalty again. He wouldn't know what to do with the special treatment and luxuries. But he WILL be having a lot of sex, so unsure if the Queen rank being readily available for higher hands would be desired. Ultimately, fine with any rank.
